Easter Weekend: Trip to Ilha Grande and Rio
Easter holiday in Brazil is a long weekend, which implicitly means going on a trip somewhere!
Initially, the plan was to go camping with a few friends. So, during the 7-hour bus to Rio de Janeiro, the whole time I was trying to awake my long-gone survival spirit. I was prepared for a 3-day diet of only mangos and coconuts picked up from the trees, and I was totally up for it, really!!
However, the plans changed to something a loooooot better! We ended up going to Ilha Grande, a small island close to Angra dos Reis, where you can only get there by boat. We stayed at a friend’s house, a really cool beach house on a hill over the sea. The place was awesome, it had cool beaches and an incredible view!
Ilha Grande is the perfect place to relax for a few days. All we ever did was soaking up the sun, hanging out on the boat or at the beach, and swimming in the sea. The boys liked to go fishing underwater with actual fishing pistols, which was nice ’cause they always came back with a delicious lunch for everyone!
Once again the Brazilians proved to be the nicest people on Earth. Even though I didn’t know some of them, they all treated me like an old-time friend and made me feel at home the entire time. It was an incredible couple of days, spent in a beautiful place and with a perfect company!
We came back to Rio on Sunday and arrived to a house full of people – Domi’s house is like a Republic where everyone has been, someday, sometime, for some reason! In the end, we spent part of the Easter Sunday with our little Portuguese community which felt like home for a few hours – it couldn’t be a better way to close the holiday!
