Lisbon – probably the best city in Europe!
After Chile I flew to Portugal, to spend Christmas and NYE in Lisbon. And once again, I left thinking that this is definitely my favorite city in the world.
Obviously, having friends and family in Lisbon helps making it so good. However, the city itself is incredible. It’s cozy and bright, and colorful and fun. Even though it’s a relatively small city, every corner is different and unexpected; we keep discovering hidden places all the time, everywhere.
This time, it took a longhaired Aussie to come to Lisbon, for me to see on of those awesome hidden places. In fact, if it wasn’t for my friend’s Australian boyfriend, who came to Portugal not long ago, we hadn’t seen this place across the river, just like a fishermen’s town, with lots of cool ruins and a breathtaking view of the city.
What we’ve done was just a rehearsal for a walking tour that will be available at the Oasis Hostel. It starts in Cais do Sodré, where we take the ferry to cross the Tejo River. After that, we walk along the river, passing by lots of friendly fishermen, a couple of small restaurants and many abandoned houses turned into ruins.
The walk finishes at the bottom of Cristo Rei (Christ, The King), in which people can go in and buy the ticket to go up to the top.
During the tour, the view over Lisbon and the 25 de Abril bridge is amazing, especially at sunset, where the colors of the sun going down make the city look even greater! This is definitely one of those perfect places that photographers always look for.
